2023 Season
When will Windmill Island Gardens open and close for the season?
Our park is now open and will welcome visitors 7 days a week through Sunday, October 1.
What are your hours?
We are open 7 days a week, 9:30am – 6pm with the last admission sold at 5pm. (Must arrive by 5 to get entrance to the park.) Please plan ahead as only guests who have purchased a ticket by 5pm will be allowed entry. During Tulip Time (May 6-14) the park opens at 9am and remains open until 7pm with last admission sold at 6pm.
What is admission?
Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for kids 3-15 years old. We encourage guests to pay with credit card though we also accept cash.
Where do I park?
We offer free parking onsite for ~250 vehicles. (Please note that the lot may fill up during Tulip Time and we shut our causeway to incoming traffic until spots open up. Additional free parking is located in downtown Holland, about a 1-mile walk from our ticket booth.)
Do you have tulips currently? When is Tulip Time?
Our dozens of tulip varieties usually begin blooming in late April and last through mid-May. We have a variety of tulips so they cascade into color rather than all blooming at once. Tulip Time (May 6-14) is a very popular period to visit our park; we encourage visits on weekdays or outside of Tulip Time to ensure access to the park. There are often tulips in bloom before and after the festival. The weekends of Tulip Time are especially busy and our parking lot will fill up – weekdays tend to be a little less busy.
You can track the progress of tulips in the City of Holland using the Tulip Tracker HERE.
What is currently open and not open?
At this point, all of our attractions will be open for visitors. There are still a few changes such as self-guided tours through the windmill rather than guided group tours (attendants are still available for guidance and questions.)
Do I need to wear a mask?
Currently, masks are not required. Guests may still wear masks if they choose.
Can I purchase admission in advance?
While we do not currently offer advance admission, guests may purchase a membership online HERE which provides free access to our site and free/reduced access to dozens of other American Horticultural Society reciprocal gardens in the US and Canada. Please allow 2 weeks for your membership card to arrive. Note that during Tulip Time there may still be lines to get into the parking lot and into the park itself. Due to visitor number restrictions, we are unable to guarantee entrance to the park at peak times.
Will Community Garden plots be available this year?
Yes, we will have the ‘Gezellige Tuin’ Community Garden again in 2023. Please email greenhouse@cityofholland.com for more details.
Can I host a wedding or event at your park?
Yes! We are currently booking and hosting weddings and events for 2023 and 2024. If you are interested in holding a wedding or event at Windmill Island Gardens (or have one scheduled currently), please reach out to our wedding coordinator Julia Johnson - j.johnson@cityofholland.com.
Can I buy flour, wooden shoes, Delft, etc.?
Yes, we offer a range of local and Dutch souvenirs in our Gift Shops. Please note that mill products (flour, grits, etc.) are unavailable at this time due to a pause in milling operations .
Are you still hiring?
Yes, we are currently accepting applications HERE.
How can I help support Windmill Island Gardens?
We would welcome you to purchase a membership to support our work HERE. They allow free access to Windmill Island Gardens as well as free/reduced access to many gardens in the American Horticultural Society reciprocal program. Donations to assist our future endeavors are accepted HERE and very much appreciated!
