Mother charged in drowning of infant

Elizabeth Robinson

On August 9 of this year, at about 9:00 p.m. first responders were dispatched to the Holland Women’s Mission for a near-drowning of an infant in a bathtub. CPR had been administered and eventually the child was taken to Helen Devos Children’s Hospital. About two weeks after the incident the child died while still at the hospital.

The Ottawa County Prosecutors Office has been reviewing the case and recently authorized charges against the child’s mother.

Earlier this week, Elizabeth May Robinson of Holland was arraigned in the 58th District court on a single count of involuntary manslaughter.  She was released on a $15,000 personal recognizance bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 8th.
