Tonight at 10:15 PM the Holland Fire Department was dispatched to the Family Fare, located at 1185 Washington Ave. for a structure fire. Information from callers indicated that there was a fire in a meat cooler inside the store. Initial units arrived on scene at 10:22 PM made immediate entry into the store to confirm all occupants were evacuated and to proceed with extinguishment of the fire. Upon entry, firefighters encountered smoke and a working fire in the rear of the store that was spreading rapidly. Quick action by firefighters provided containment and extinguishment of the fire shortly after arrival.
There were no injuries to occupants but one firefighter was treated on scene for a minor facial injury. Fire damage is contained to the cooler and areas adjacent to it however smoke was present throughout the store. The department's Fire Marshal has initiated an origin and cause investigation; preliminary findings indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical issue in the cooler. Loss estimates are not available at this time.
