City of Holland Recognized for Environmental Leadership
The City of Holland was recognized for its environmental leadership by the statewide Michigan Green Communities (MGC) program. As part of the annual Michigan Green Communities (MGC) Challenge, local governments are awarded bronze, silver, gold or platinum seals of achievement. These achievements reflect community leadership in areas such as energy efficiency, climate adaptation and resilience, recycling, environmental justice and more.
The City of Holland achieved gold status for exemplary action in multiple categories, including planning, energy efficiency, renewable energy, recycling, transportation, and community engagement.
Over this past year, the City has made significant strides in these areas, especially in community energy efficiency, rebates, and the elective renewable rate program. The Home Energy 101 and Holland Board of Public Works (HBPW) Rebate programs are a success in the Holland community and have become a model for other communities to address energy efficiency. Between those successes and our continued dedication in all areas of the city, we achieved the certified gold status.
