[ARCHIVED] Occupants Safe After an Early Morning Fire

This morning at 12:42 am, firefighters from the Holland Department of Public Safety were dispatched to a report of a fire in the second story of 2 unit residence at 371 W. 19th Street. Crews arriving on scene reported that fire was venting out of multiple windows on the second floor. Presented with poor conditions and heavy smoke they made entry to the second floor apartment to extinguish the fire and search for potential occupants. Shortly after arrival the fire was brought under control and it was confirmed that all occupant were safely evacuated. Crews remained on scene until roughly 3:30 am to completely extinguish hidden pockets of fire and conduct salvage in the first floor apartment.

There were no injuries to occupants or responding firefighters. Damage estimates are not available at this time however the second story sustained significant fire damage with fire extending through the roof. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined however the department's Fire Marshal has initiated a cause and origin investigation.

The fire department was assisted this morning by the Holland police officers and paramedics from American Medical Response. Holland Charter Township provided assistance and responded to the scene through automatic mutual aid. The Graafschap Fire Department provided standby coverage for subsequent incidents in the city for the duration of the incident.
