Today at about 12:00 p.m. officers and firefighters of the Holland Department of Public Safety responded to the Boatwerks restaurant for a report of a suspicious package. An employee of Boatwerks had witnessed a subject placing a package in a tree near the restaurant and then leaving the area in a vehicle.
Responding officers located the suspicious item in the tree as the caller described. As a precautionary measure, patrons and employees were instructed to remain in the restaurant while the package was investigated. The Michigan State Police Bomb Team responded and determined the package was harmless.
It appears the package may have been placed as part of a Geo-Cache, scavenger hunt or other similar purpose.
