Holland Fire Department Responds to Two Major Incidents within minutes of each other – September 6, 2025


Water Rescue – Holland State Park


Time of Call: 15:23

At 3:23 p.m., the Holland Fire Department along with Park Township fire department, USCG and American Medical response responded to a water rescue in the nearshore area of Holland State Park.

One kayaker was overturned, and a victim was in the water. Crews successfully pulled the individual from the water. The patient was provided emergency medical care at the scene.

The quick response of emergency personnel ensured a safe outcome in this incident.

 

Hazardous Materials Incident – LG Energy Solutions


Time of Call: 15:26

At 3:26 p.m., just minutes after the water rescue, the Holland Fire Department was dispatched to a hazardous materials incident at LG Energy Solutions, located at 875 E 48th Street in Holland.

Upon arrival, crews confirmed a chemical spill within the facility. Emergency responders initiated hazardous materials protocols, secured the scene, and ensured the safety of employees and surrounding areas.

A total of fifteen individuals were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment related to the incident. At this time, no life-threatening injuries have been reported.

The chemical spill was contained on site, and specialized teams conducted cleanup operations to ensure the facility was safe and secure. There was no threat to the public outside the immediate area of the facility.

The Holland Fire Department would like to thank the Graafschap Fire Department, American Medical Response, the Holland Police Department, and Ottawa County Central Dispatch for their assistance. Their support and coordination were critical in ensuring an efficient and effective response to this incident.

Both incidents remain under review, and LG Energy Solutions is cooperating fully with emergency services and environmental safety officials.
