[ARCHIVED] WINDMILL ISLAND COVID INFO

Sorry-Temporarily Closed

Our attractions (including our restrooms) are currently closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Michigan’s Stay-at-Home restrictions.  For the health and safety of our community we are asking that visitors delay traveling to see us until we can legally and safely open our attractions and gardens.  Thank you for your understanding.  Please Stay Home & Stay Safe so we can Welkom you later this summer!

Is Windmill Island Gardens open? What are your hours?

Our attractions are currently closed in line with Michigan’s stay-at-home order. As a city-owned facility our grounds can be visited by locals as a municipal park. However, we request that tourists delay their visit until we can safely open our attractions, restrooms, shops, etc.

When are you going to open?

We plan to open our attractions as soon as we can legally and safely do so. With changing orders and regulations, we cannot provide a date at this point. Please note that we will be analyzing each building/attraction separately and not all will open at once. Check back here or on our Facebook page for updated information.

What steps are being taken to ensure the safety of visitors?

We will be following all local, state and federal guidelines to instruct us how to open and maintain our attractions. We are evaluating things currently and will provide a rundown of our safety procedures before we open.

What is the status of programs or events?

Our 2020 programming has been postponed until we are able to open our attractions. Please monitor our website and Facebook page for updates.

Will Community Garden plots be available this year?

Yes, we do plan to have the Community Garden open in 2020. Please email greenhouse@cityofholland.com for more details.

What is the status of weddings?

We plan to host weddings as soon as we can legally and safely do so.  If you are interested in having a wedding at Windmill Island Gardens (or have one scheduled currently), please reach out to Julia Johnson, our wedding coordinator at j.johnson@cityofholland.com.

Can I buy flour, wooden shoes, Delft, etc.?

Unfortunately, our shops are closed until our attractions can re-open.

Are you still hiring?

While we are currently accepting applications HERE the hiring and onboarding process has been paused until our attractions can open.

Are you going to have a tulip dig?

Unfortunately, the 2020 Tulip Dig has been canceled for safety reasons. At Windmill Island Gardens, our staff will be removing the tulips and planting with beautiful annuals for our visitors to enjoy this summer. Then we will replant with tulips this fall for another wonderful tulip display in spring 2021!

Have you been affected by high water levels?

Yes, as our park is on the Macatawa River (which is connected to Lake Michigan via Lake Macatawa) we have experienced periodic flooding of some areas including our causeway. Our staff continues to adapt to this situation for the long and short-term but we ask that all guests follow posted instructions, stay out of flooded areas, and remain aware of their surroundings at all times.

How can I help support Windmill Island Gardens?

We would welcome you to purchase a membership to support our work HERE. Memberships bought now will be valid through the 2021 season due to the uncertainty this year. They allow free access to Windmill Island Gardens as well as free/reduced access to many gardens in the American Horticultural Society reciprocal program. Donations to assist our future endeavors are also accepted HERE and are very much appreciated!
