Area Media,
On May 28th at 5:45 p.m., officers of the Holland Department of Public Safety were dispatched to an injury accident which occurred at Michigan Ave and 24th St. in the City of Holland.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2003 red Honda Civic, being operated by a 19 year old Holland man, was headed north bound on Michigan Ave in the right lane for north bound traffic. Another vehicle was next to the Civic in the inside lane of northbound traffic.
As the vehicles approached 24th street, witnesses stated that a black pick up truck, possibly a Dodge Ram, made a left had turn off east bound 24th onto north bound Michigan Ave, turning into the path of the approaching Honda Civic. The driver of the Civic swerved to the right to avoid collision with the pick-up, causing the Civic to leave the roadway to the right, but then the vehicle struck two pedestrians who were on the sidewalk of Michigan Ave on the east side of the roadway.
One of the pedestrians, a 22 year old Zeeland woman, was transported to Spectrum Health by AeroMed. The other pedestrian, a 26 year old Holland man, was taken to Spectrum Health by AMR. Both had serious injuries. The driver of the Honda Civic was taken to Holland Hospital by family members.
