Picture of Firefighter-Paramedic William Reed

Firefighter EMT-P, William Damien Reed has been named the department’s 2021 Paid on Call Firefighter of the Year.   A native of Laguna Beach, California, William began his career in 1988 as a reserve firefighter with the Moraga Fire Department in Moraga, California. He served as a Firefighter/Paramedic for the Moraga, San Francisco, Alameda and Saugatuck Fire Departments before starting with the Holland Fire Department in April of 2014.

William has earned a Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University, his paramedic license, and many other fire/EMS related credentials and certifications. William most recently retired from Holland Hospital where he served as an American Heart Association, BLS Instructor-Coordinator, ACLS Instructor and engaged in numerous community outreach programs as part of the hospital. He continues to be an instructor in these areas and assists with delivering these courses to the department.

Currently William is assigned to Station #3 and is recognized for his commitment to the organization’s core values. Specifically, he is recognized for his professionalism, compassion, and dedication. William uses his knowledge, training and experience on every response and serves as a role model for others. He is also dedicated to our mission of serving the community, often volunteering for additional events and activities that the department is involved with over and above responses. He is also recognized for exercising compassion. Whether this is being mindful of the needs of our community members, being a good coach and mentor for new firefighters or taking a personal role and responsibility in assisting a fire victim with remembering their pet that died as a result of a fire, William puts others ahead of himself.

These are just a few reasons that William “Bill” Reed is being honored as the department’s 2021 Paid on Call Firefighter of the Year.
