On 8/17/21 at about 7:05 p.m., Officers of the Holland Department of Public Safety responded to a residence on 17th street near College Ave., on a report of a subject who had been stabbed. Arriving officers located the victim, a 52-year-old Holland woman, who had a laceration on her right arm.

The victim reported that she had gone to the residence on 17th St., where her son lives, to care for his dog since her son was at work for the evening. After tending to the dog, the victim was confronted in the residence by her son’s housemate, who grabbed the victim and threatened her with a knife.  The victim initially struggled with the suspect during which she received a cut on her right arm. After the initial struggle ended, the suspect tied up the victim inside the residence and told her that he needed money.

Eventually the victim was able to free herself and escape out of the residence to a neighbor’s house and call 911.

Officers checked the area and located a subject matching the suspect’s description a few blocks west of the residence.  The suspect, a 57-year-old Holland man, was taken into custody.  A credit card belonging to the victim was found in his possession.

The victim was transported to Holland Hospital where she was treated for her injury and released.

The suspect was lodged and charges are being sought through the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s office.   The suspects name is being withheld pending arraignment.
