The Holland Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce Reserve Officer Matt Wierenga as the Reserve Officer of the Year. Chief Matt Messer made the announcement during the annual reserve officer award ceremony this week. Reserve Officer Wierenga will represent the Holland Police Reserve Unit at various functions throughout the year.
Reserve Officer Wierenga was nominated for this prestigious award by his peers. Some of the reasons cited for him being nominated included that he “is approachable and has a positive attitude” as well as that he “enjoys interacting with and helping the community as a representative of the Holland Department of Public Safety”. Multiple nomination noted his willingness to assist other reserve officers in working details if others encounter a scheduling conflict and he will always “go above and beyond or help anyway he can and always with a great attitude”.
Reserve Officer Wierenga has been with the department since 2017. He is employed by Semco Energy and lives in Zeeland with his wife.
The Holland Department of Public Safety is grateful for the dedication displayed by Officer Wierenga and he is to be commended for receiving this award.
