[ARCHIVED] Holland Police Investigating Fatal Traffic Crash

November 19, 2021

This morning, shortly after 8:15, officers and firefighters of the Holland DPS were dispatched to the area of US 31 and Lincoln Ave. on a report of a serious single vehicle traffic crash. First responders located a 2019 Dodge Caravan which had crashed into a building at Holland Self Storage, 160 E 40th. The driver and only occupant of the Caravan was found to be unresponsive. He was transported to Holland Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Initial investigation indicates that the Caravan had been in the south bound lanes of US31, and shortly after going through the intersection of Lincoln Ave., the vehicle ran off the road to the right, over a grassy area and then through a fence onto the Holland Self Storage property, eventually crashing into a storage building.  Preliminary indication is the driver likely suffered a medical event while driving which led to the crash.

The driver is identified as 84-year Glenn Schrotenboer of Holland.  Neither speed or alcohol are believed to have contributed to the crash.  No other vehicles were involved.

The crash remains under investigation.
