[ARCHIVED] The Holland Department Of Public Safety Announces Paid On Call Firefighter of the Year

The Holland Department of Public Safety – Fire Services Division is proud to announce that Firefighter Michael Highstreet has been selected as the department’s 2022 Paid on Call, Firefighter of the Year. Firefighter Highstreet was nominated by his peers and selected by his officers to receive this distinguished honor. Firefighter Highstreet is recognized as a standout in the department. His consistently positive attitude and great demeaner serve as an example for others. He offers a wealth of knowledge both on and off the fire ground and willingly shares this for the betterment of the team. These traits support the department’s core values of Respect and Dedication. 

Firefighter Highstreet began his career with the department in September 2001 and is currently assigned to Station #3. In addition to his duties as a firefighter he serves as a driver and pump operator at that station. Being a paid-on call firefighter is a second job and today requires a high level of commitment and flexibility. In addition to being an active member of the department is the Water-Wastewater Service Supervisor for the Holland Board of Public Works. 

The department directs and guides its mission with the core values of Compassion, Respect, Integrity, Professionalism and Dedication. Those receiving this award like Michael have demonstrated leadership and job performance in a manner that is consistent with these core values.
