[ARCHIVED] Holland Police Respond to Shooting

Cruiser with lights on

On 9/27/19 shortly after 7:00 p.m., the Holland Department of Public Safety was dispatched to a shooting at a house near 15th St/Central Ave.  Responding officers found an 18 year old male had been shot multiple times on his back porch.  The victim was initially transported to Holland Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, and then transferred to Grand Rapids in critical condition.

Officers obtained information indicating the suspect may have left on foot, so a perimeter was set up and Holland Police K-9 was called in to assist.  Hope College Campus Safety issued a shelter in place alert due to the safety concern of the suspect still being on foot in the area.  Holland Police detectives were called in to assist in the investigation.  After the K-9 search of the area, and additional information was obtained, it was believed that the suspect was no longer in the area and Hope College Campus Safety lifted the Shelter in Place alert.

Officers and detectives worked throughout the night following up on leads.  Witnesses indicate the suspect is a light skinned black male wearing a grey hoodie, and reported that the victim met with the suspect on the back porch right before the shooting happened.
