Certificate of Appropriateness

A Certificate of Appropriateness (CoA) is required for work that will affect the exterior of any property within the local Historic Districts in Holland. The Historic District Commission (HDC) reviews the applications for a CoA according to the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and the Holland Historic District Design Guidelines.

The HDC meets monthly, generally the first Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. Applications and all fees for a CoA must be received in the Community and Neighborhood Services Department no less than ten (10) business days prior to the date of the next regularly scheduled meeting. For further information please contact the Historic Preservation Planner at (616) 355-1362.

You may download a copy of the application for a Certificate of Appropriateness and submit the completed application by emailing it to cns@cityofholland.com, or by dropping off or mailing it to the following address:

Community and Neighborhood Services
Attn: Anna Schutter, Planner
270 S. River Avenue
Holland, MI 49423

All CoA applications submitted for HDC review will be charged a $25 application fee. Staff review is provided at no cost.
