Community Resources for Newcomers

This guide is intended to be used to support newcomer families in navigating community resources in West Michigan. Please take time to work alongside families in using this resource and connecting them to community services particular to the needs they are communicating. Empowering community members to navigate these resources is important to their sense of belonging, however it is not expected that a newcomer will be able to use this resource independently.

Lighthouse Immigration Advocates is a 501c3 nonprofit immigration law office and advocacy center providing high-quality, low-cost legal services.

Farmworker Legal Services ("FLS") is a statewide, non-profit legal services provider that represents indigent immigrant, migrant, and seasonal farmworkers and their dependents throughout Michigan.

Immigration Relief Fund for Ottawa County The Immigrant Relief Fund at St. John's Episcopal Church was created for the purpose of helping our community, as most aid at the federal and state levels has been denied. You can use this form to request help and also to offer to help us in this work. Only available to Ottawa County residents.

Latin Americans United for Progress (LAUP) provides translation services and offers Citizenship Preparation classes and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.

Intersection Ministries offers free Citizenship Classes including assistance with preparation of citizenship documents and prescreening with an immigration attorney.
