NOTICE FOR FILING PETITIONS FOR CITY OFFICES

TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF HOLLAND: NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that nominating petitions will be received at the office of the City Clerk, Holland, Michigan until the deadline of 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2023, for the following offices:

  • Mayor
  • Council Member At-Large (one position)
  • Council Member for Second (2) Ward 
  • Council Member for Fourth (4) Ward
  • Council Member for Sixth (6) Ward

Nominating petition forms and supplemental information must be obtained from the City Clerk's Office, City Hall, 270 River Avenue, Holland, Michigan during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Candidates for City Office must be: a US citizen, a qualified elector registered at their Holland City address, a resident of the City of Holland for at least 2 years, a resident of the Ward they will represent (for Wards 2, 4, 6) for 20 days prior to nomination, and not be in default to the City or any school district within the City.

Petitions for Mayor and Council Member At-Large require not less than 60 signatures of qualified electors with at least 10 from each of the six wards of the City. Ward Council Member petitions must bear the signatures of not less than 20 and not more than 40 qualified electors from the respective ward.

If there are more than two candidates for the same office, there will be a City Primary Election on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, where the top two candidates receiving votes will qualify for the City General Election on November 7, 2023. If there are not more than two candidates for the same office, there will not be an August Primary and all qualified candidates will appear on the November ballot.
