Board of Appeals

Any questions you have regarding the Board of Appeals (i.e. applying, the status of a current application(s), etc.) please reach out to the Community & Neighborhood Services Department at or by calling 616-355-1330. 


The Board of Appeals is the only body empowered to grant variances from code or ordinance requirements. The Board of Appeals consists of four different subsections:

  • Accommodations for Persons with Disabilities
  • Construction Board of Appeals
  • Housing Board of Appeals
  • Zoning Board of Appeals

All applications are due 21 days before the meeting date. There is a $75 - $200 application fee for each property. NOTE: Conditional Use Applications are due 30 days before meeting date.
